Introduction Modding, modding, modding; that's all you hear these days. Are they all really "do it yourself" jobs though? The one I'll be showing you today certainly is. Not only am I going to show you how to stealth your CD-ROMs, I'm going to stealth the Floppy as well. Yeah, you saw right; the Floppy, but that's not until Part 2. With the right tools and a bit of elbow Grease the project should go off without a hitch; or will it? Let's first get onto the CD-ROM stealthing... Materials | CD-Rom | You can leave it in or out | | Scissors | Nice and sharp! I know you're excited but, don't run! :) | | Small screw or Washer | Velcro this to drive bay to serve as a device to touch the drive button when pushed on the outside | | Drive Bay Cover(s) | CD-Rom bay cover | | Screw Driver | Phillips or flathead; grab both | Stealthing the CD-Rom Now we shall set off on our journey to "stealthing" (or hiding) that CD-Rom drive that sticks out like a soar thumb. Get all your supplies, and have them ready. Make sure you read carefully and refer to the pictures. Good luck soldier… First thing you're going to do is turn your computer off. By this I mean shut it down, turn off all power to the computer by unplugging the cord that leads to your PSU, or switching it off AFTER you shut down Windows. Next, remove your side panels. For this you most likely will need a screw driver. Unscrew all screws from the panels and remove them both. Now loosen all four screws to your CD-Rom. Most likely there will be two on each side, loosen them all. Once they are all loosened, move the drive up about an inch. Simply grasp the drive and slide it out. This will give you some room for applying the Velcro. Get your Velcro out and crack that sucker open! Velcro comes in various shapes and sizes. Mine came in rectangle shapes, which I cut into small strips. No matter what shape you have, just cut or place two identical amounts on both the drive and bay cover. The Velcro should be placed on the tray itself and not across the whole drive. Make sure no Velcro is sticking to the drive and tray otherwise the tray wont be able to open. Next take the "arms" off of the bay cover, if you haven't done so already… If you have aluminum covers then you'll have to cut them off with your Dremel or cutting device. If you have plastic you can simply snap them right off. The edge might be rough in both cases; for plastic use sand paper and for aluminum use a grinding bit for your cutting device. My drive bay covers come apart, therefore I don't have to break or cut the arms off. Take a look
