 The aerostatics is the study, construction and operation of airships.

History

In 1782, the first test but Joseph Montgolfier in 1783, a year rich, men will fly with the balloon of the Montgolfier brothers and charlière of Jacques Charles.

1785: crossing the English Channel by Jean-Pierre Blanchard and John Jeffries. The trip is possible but very uncertain, the engine is the wind. However, the ball will be especially useful during the siege of Paris in 1871 to break the German blockade.

1852: The first airship Henri Giffard but it was not until 1884 that an airship to make a return journey, that of Charles Renard and Arthur Krebs.

1914: the "ball Caquot" used by the Allied military observation during the First World War (1914-1918). It is a tethered balloon invented by Albert Caquot (1881-1976).

Then the time of the great airships. The engine explosion and efficient light that will allow the airships to be effective, will also sound their death knell, enabling the aircraft to take off.

Today, balloons are used in sports and tourism. The gas balloon still has its adherents, but in smaller numbers, because it is more expensive and less easy to implement. Every year takes place the Gordon Bennett Cup aircraft which pits the best balloonists.

The airship is also a sport that is practiced today.

Scientific studies

Whether for the study of the atmosphere, the study of tropical forest canopies or to forecast weather, the airships, the balloons, or stratospheric balloon are still widely used.

Commercial

Despite recent efforts, rigid airships have small businesses not convinced. Advertising remains the appearance of small airships or balloons captives.

For and against since 1994 through Aérophile SA, balloons captive again become a little expensive to indulge in as aerostatics in Paris since 1999 and Disneyland Resort Paris since 2005 as well as Singapore, Hong Kong or Los Angeles .

The balloons are also a different means of air transport demand. They allow the flight up to twenty passengers.
