Sandy Andelman joined Conservation International as the Senior Director of the Tropical Ecology, Assessment and Monitoring (TEAM) Initiative in 2005, after spending seven years as Deputy Director for the National Center for Ecological Analysis and Synthesis (NCEAS) at the University of California, Santa Barbara, where she also was an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Ecology, Evolution and Marine Biology. Sandy has more than 25 years of experience as a conservation scientist, working in North America, Africa, Asia and Australia.

She served as editor of the international journal Biological Conservation, on the Board of Governors of the Society for Conservation Biology, on the editorial board of the journal Conservation Biology and as co-editor of a special issue of Ecological Applications on the science of marine reserves. Sandy has substantial experience with field stations, particularly in east and southern Africa and Southeast Asia. She also has experience with large-scale ecological research collaborations, as a principal investigator on the National Science Foundation (NSF)-funded Knowledge Network for Biocomplexity, a member of the Design Consortium for NSF's National Ecological Observatory Network (NEON), and currently as the principal investigator for a NSF-funded Research Coordination Network.
