Laser imaging and spectroscopy for reacting fluid flow and sprays, biorenewable fuels, combustion, power and propulsion, gas-turbines, scramjets, hypersonic vehicles, and internal combustion engines.

Biosketch
Dr. Meyer completed his doctoral work at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2000, having held graduate fellowships from the National Science Foundation and Ford Foundation, as well as being selected for the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) Graduate Award in Fluid Dynamics.  His dissertation work focused on laser techniques for measuring turbulent mixing at the molecular scale, and he subsequently focused on the study of combusting flows at the Air Force Research Laboratory in Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, OH. 

Dr. Meyer's scientific accomplishments are documented in 29 peer-reviewed journal articles published or in press, with a personal citation impact factor of 3.  His publications include works in Combustion and Flame, the Journal of Fluid Mechanics, and Applied Physics Letters.  He has also co-authored over 50 conference papers and submitted several provisional patent applications.  Dr. Meyer has been recognized as an Associate Fellow of the AIAA, serves on several national committees, and has chaired the Ohio Valley Section of the Society for Applied Spectroscopy.  He also helped to found the Dayton Engineering Sciences Symposium, serving as Co-Chair in 2006.

Dr. Meyer's research at Iowa State University is currently funded by the Air Force Research Laboratory, the Air Force Office of Scientific Research, NASA, Conoco-Phillips, and the Grow Iowa Values Fund.  He currently advises five graduate students and one post-doctoral researcher for studies of fundamental reacting fluid dynamics, two-phase flows, ultrafast laser spectroscopy, and power/propulsion devices.
