FBR Historical Highlights

1981 FBR is founded to improve human and animal health by promoting public understanding and support for the humane and responsible use of animals in research.

1984 FBR's first educational film, "Will I Be Alright Doctor?" premiers at a Capitol Hill reception. The 25-minute production explains the critical importance of animal research in developing medicines, treatments and surgical procedures.

1989 FBR distributes a video news release, "Helen Hayes Speaks Out in Favor of Animal Research."

1991 FBR develops its first series of "species sheets" explaining the essential need for rodents, primates, cats, dogs, and other lab animals in research on various diseases and disorders.

1992 FBR releases "Why Should I Stay Awake In Science Class?" a video, teacher's guide and classroom poster designed to encourage students in grades 7-10 to consider careers in science.

1996 FBR pre-empts publicity for animal activists during the March for Animals in Washington, D.C., by hosting a press conference and conducting dozens of on-air interviews for TV and radio.

1997 FBR distributes "Animal Research and AIDS," an informative booklet that explains how animal models are helping researchers understand and treat the disease.
