1984 Omicron starts it's business with the presentation of the revolutionary reverse view LEED principle.
1987 Omicron develops the legendary STM 1, the companies first Scanning Tunneling Microscope.
1989 Foundation of an Omicron subsidiary in the USA. The company has now 30 employees worldwide.
1992 Foundation of Omicron France. First UHV AFM is sold.
1994 Development of a combined STM/SEM/SAM system.
1995 First VT STM sold. RD 100 Award for the new VT STM. Takeover of VSW Instruments Manchester. Omicron´s office in Italy is founded.
1996 Omicron Switzerland and Omicron Electron Spectroscopy are founded.
1999 The new Nanoprobe is launched. This system allows a simultaneous 4 probe measurement. Omicron wins the "Hidden Champion" Award in Hesse.
2000 First combined MBE and Analysis system is installed.
2001 First system with the new UHV Gemini Column is ready for shipment.Omicron has now over 150 employees.
2003 NanoESCA shows 100nm spatial resolution for imaging ESCA.

Nanotechnology has been our everyday busines since long before the term ever existed.
Founded in 1984 by Norbert Nold, Omicron started business by introducing the SPECTALEED and the legendary Ultra High Vacuum STM 1 as their first and highly successful products. The STM 1, which still delivers state-of-the-art performance even by today's standards in nearly 200 laboratories worldwide, firmly established Omicron's present position as the world market leader in UHV scanning probe microscopy.
Today, our products like, for example, the new NanoESCA or the UHV Gemini Column are right at the forefront of research. We are used to redefining the limits of the technically feasible again and again. More than 500 articles demonstrate this to the full. Many of them were published in leading journals such as Nature, Science, Physical Review Letters or Chemical Review Letters.
