Discover Balloons was formed in 1988 by Doug Grimes and Patty Lewis. Doug began flying Hot Air Balloons in 1979 and operated balloon ride operations in Durango, CO; parts of Northern California; and San Diego, CA. Patty was in the marketing department of an airline that had their own Hot Air Balloon with the company logo. In the early years, Doug and Patty traveled to balloon events around the country-mostly weekend events. Eventually a balloon gift catalog was put together and in 1995 a balloon store was opened in Albuquerque. They now have the World's Largest Collection of Hot Air Balloon Gift items, decorative and promotional balloons and offer Balloon rides in the Albuquerque area. Some Balloon events contract them to run the event's official souvenir booth or organize the Ballooning aspects of the event.
