Imhotep Ltd was founded in 1997 after the two directors: Jonathan A.D. Wilcox MIM CEng and Dr Amanda J. Wilcox had spent over 25 years combined in the polymer composites industry developing ever more advanced processing technology for other companies in extrusion, pultrusion, filament winding, and moulding. Frustrated that what seemed the obvious potential of thermoplastic composites was not being commercially exploited to any great extent they jumped their respective ships and formed Imhotep Ltd. Here they applied they used their combined experience to develop novel processing technology for the ecomomic manufacture of high performance continuous fibre reinforced thermoplastic composites. This technology produces prepregs and profiles with the mechanical performance of traditional fibreglass thermoset composites but with the aesthetics of a glossy, coloured plastic extrusion and with the added benefit of being much tougher. The driving force behind Imhotep Ltd The exploitation of thermoplastic matrix composites has been limited only by the need for cost-effective, high speed, automated manufacturing methods that can cope with the higher viscosities of thermoplastic melts when compared with thermoset resins. Imhotep Ltd's novel processing technology removes these limitations. Imhotep Ltd novel processing technology for the economic manufacture of high performance continuous fibre reinforced thermoplastic composites uses readily available equipment and inexpensive raw materials. This technology has been proven in a manufacturing environment and a variety of profiles have been produced, sold, and accepted in a wide variety of markets.
