Ø Collection, sorting, conveyance and delivery of postal articles.
Ø Planning and maintenance of postal products and services.
Ø To promote the standards of products and services to the international level.
Ø To fix the charges of postal products and services fairly and competitively.
Ø To take action to fulfill the customer demands which have not been assessed up to date.
Ø To maintain financial stability within the postal network.
Ø Identification and implementation of activities connected with the internet.
Ø To help the Government to successfully carry out local communication service development projects.
Ø Expansion of modern communication technology to rural areas and to make the rural community to reap the benefits of the modern communication.
Post Office Network
During this year, Department of Posts was able to acquire a Post Office network consisting of one post office per every 14 km and every 4100 persons. This position is more important when comparing with other South Asian Countries. Action has been taken during the year to upgrade Ranna, Chilavaturai and Sangarajapura Sub Post Offices to the status of Class II Post Offices and Oddamavadi Class II Post Office to the status of Class I Post Office and action has also been taken to open a new Post Office at Galle Secretariat.
